Use materials

Materials are resources or information that has been provided to mission members for use during the mission. These resources can be documents, images, or links to ArcGIS Survey123, and are added to the mission by the mission owner or administrators using ArcGIS Mission Manager. Materials can be accessed from the mission overview, and from inside an active mission.

Material documents and images must be one of the following file types:

  • .pdf
  • .doc
  • .docx
  • .xls
  • .xlsx
  • .ppt
  • .pptx
  • .csv
  • .jpeg
  • .jpg
  • .png
  • .tif
  • .tiff

On the Materials list, available materials are separated into three categories; Images, Documents, and Survey123 forms. To access images or documents, you must first download those files to your device. To access Survey123 forms, you must first have ArcGIS Survey123 installed.

Download materials

The process for downloading images and documents is the same, so they are not separated in the workflow below. Files can be downloaded individually or all at once using the Download All button. Downloaded files can only be accessed in the ArcGIS Mission Responder app; they are not visible in your device's internal storage or other storage areas.

To download a file, open the app and complete the following steps:

  1. Locate your mission from the mission list.
  2. Tap Details.
  3. Tap Materials.
  4. Tap Images or Documents.
  5. At this point you may either tap Download All or you can tap Download for each material individually.

Your selected files appear under On Device and are removed from Available for Download.

Remove images or documents

Removing materials from the On Device list can only be done individually. Removed materials can be downloaded again at any time.

To remove a file, open the app and complete the following steps:

  1. Locate your mission from the mission list.
  2. Tap Details.
  3. Tap Materials.
  4. Tap Images or Documents.
  5. Tap the overflow icon next to the file you want to remove.

For iOS devices, instead of tapping the overflow, swipe the file to the left.

  6. Tap Remove File.

Your selected file is removed from On Device appears under Available for Download.

Access downloaded images and documents

Once you have downloaded any images or documents, you can use your device's native applications to view the files. However, this means that a file may not be accessible if the device does not have the appropriate application required to view the file.

Caution:

Files that have not been properly formatted for mobile use may not work, even if they are one of the above file types and your device has the required viewer.

To access downloaded materials, open the app and complete the following steps::

  1. Locate your mission from the mission list.
  2. Tap Details.
  3. Tap Materials.
  4. Tap Images or Documents.
  5. Tap the material you want to access.

Your device should open the appropriate app for viewing the file, or allow you to select the app you want to use.

The file will be displayed on your device.
